Presenter

Jane Dika, MA, LPC, CAADC, CCS, NCC

Jane has over ten years of experience in the mental health field. She has worked in both residential and outpatient programs, has supervised clinicians, and has experience as a manager of outpatient programs. Jane is a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor. She is a Certified Clinical Supervisor and supervises clinicians providing treatment for clients with substance use disorders.

Goal:
Participants will develop an understanding of the unique treatment needs of men, ways that views of masculinity are formed and how this can influence treatment needs and outcomes of men in treatment for co-occurring substance use and other mental health disorders. 

 

Objectives:

•        Differentiate between biological sex, gender, and sexual identity as it relates to men

•        Differentiate between biological and environmental factors that influence the development self-concept for men

•        Summarize developmental process and risk factors for men to develop a substance use disorder

•        Utilize DSM V criteria in the assessment process to screen and assess male clients for co-occurring substance use and other mental health disorders

•        Summarize prevalence rates of substance use and other common co-occurring disorders for men

•        Utilize a bio-psychosocial assessment process to identify treatment issues specific to men in recovery

•        Identify and utilize group topics to address issues specific to men in recovery  

 

Schedule:
8:30am – 9am: Registration

9am – 10:20:  Differentiate between biological sex, gender, and sexual identity as it relates to men and differentiate between biological and environmental factors that influence the development self-concept for men

10:20am – 10:30am: Break

10:30am – 12pm:  Summarize developmental process and risk factors for men to develop a substance use disorder

12pm-1pm: Lunch break

1pm – 2:20pm: Review of the DSM criteria for substance use disorders and common co-occurring disorders and summary of prevalence rates of substance use disorders and other common co-occurring disorders for men

2:20pm – 2:30: Break

2:30pm – 3:50: Review of the bio-psychosocial assessment process to identify treatment issues specific to men in recovery, and identify and utilize group topics to address issues specific to men in recovery

3:50pm – 4pm: Questions and feedback.
