Goal:
Participants will develop a knowledge and
understanding of basic ethical principles to build a foundation of
ethical practice and guide their decision making in the treatment
of individuals with substance use disorders. In addition
to ethical principles, the training will address building and
maintaining healthy boundaries, and client
confidentiality. Participants will be encouraged to
explore how personal morals and values contribute to their ethical
decision making.
Objectives and Schedule:
9am – 10:20am: Defining boundaries, healthy
therapy relationships and exploring the importance of having
healthy boundaries in the clinical setting
10:20am – 10:35am: Break
10:35am – 12pm: Differentiate between boundary
crossing, boundary violations, dual relationships, multiple
relations, non-sexual, and sexual boundary violations.
Differentiate between healthy and unhealthy boundaries and identity
obstacles in establishing healthy boundaries with clients suffering
from substance use disorders
12pm-1pm: lunch
1pm – 2:20pm: Define ethics and ethical
decision making, define and explore the 12 Ethical Principles in
MCBAP/ NAADC Code of Ethical Standards.
2:30pm – 3:55pm Define ethical dilemma and how
to make ethical decisions, Identify the role of personal values and
morals in ethical decision making, define confidentiality and its
role in the therapeutic relationship, define HIPPA Privacy and 42
CFR Part 2 rules and explore Duty to Warn
3:55pm - 4pm: Questions and feedback
