GOALS

This training will help individuals learn about and become aware of their own conscious and unconscious stereotypes, biases, attitudes, and behaviors that impact their automatic patterns of thinking and behaviors within the workplace and their personal lives. It will assist individuals to recognize, address, and overcome racial barriers within the minority populations they serve in treatment for behavioral health and substance use disorders.
OBJECTIVES
• Define implicit bias and identify the forms that it can take.
• Identify strategies for healthcare workers to identify and address implicit bias in their organizations and practice.
• Develop awareness on implicit bias and the cultural climate of one’s own community.
• Identify and develop strategies to provide insight on how implicit bias impacts the diagnosis, treatment and future prognosis for minorities with substance use and mental health disorders.
• Discuss implicit bias as it pertains to the criminal justice system.
• Identify policies and procedures that can be further developed to address implicit bias.
