COURSE:

Addiction Series: Introduction to Alcohol Use Disorders  6CE Hours MCBAP Approved (specific)

6 CE hours NBCC

GOAL:

Participants will develop an understanding of alcohol use disorders and the history of alcohol use in the United States, common co-occurring disorders, and treatment approaches for working with clients with alcohol use disorders, and common co-occurring disorders.     

SCHEDULE:

8:30am – 9am: Registration

9am – 10:20am:  Discussion of commonly used forms of alcohol and alcohol use in the United States

10:20am – 10:35am: Break

10:35am – 12pm Overview DSM V criteria for alcohol use disorders, discussion of bio-psychosocial approach to assess individuals for alcohol use disorders

12pm – 1pm: Lunch

1pm – 2:20pm: Summary of common co-occurring disorders for individuals with alcohol use disorders, identify evidence-based treatment approaches for individuals with alcohol use disorders

2:20pm - 2:30pm: Break

2:30pm – 3:50pm: Overview of the use of medications for symptom management for individuals with alcohol use disorders, and treatment considerations for individuals with alcohol use disorders 

3:50pm – 4pm: – Questions and feedback
